Still, not "completely wrong". I just went too short in describing it. It does not change the message and scope of the post!
Imho, product ops has been done anyway. A good product manager should always aim to optimize the processes around him/her. And they already did. In smaller companies, the PM identifies the need and the rookies then did the execution. In larger companies, there are product managers for internal projects. I really do not see the absolute need to have a specific title for each and everything. This would mean (or at least make it difficult) that a PM could never optimize an internal process OR a Product Ops guy would have no change to do any product management.
And if it is not about the tasks and career path, but only the title, then the HR problem of mixing up those things comes into play.
